About CSS

Hailing from São Paulo, Brazil, CSS (an acronym for "cansei de ser sexy," meaning "tired of being sexy") is a trailblazing dance-rock collective known for their infectious blend of punk, reggae, and electronic influences. Formed in 2003, the original sextet featured charismatic vocalist Lovefoxxx alongside bassist Iracema Trevisan, multi-instrumentalist and producer Adriano Cintra, and guitarists Ana Rezende, Carolina Parra, and Luiza Sá. The band’s members connected through the growing online platforms Fotolog and Trama Virtual, as well as São Paulo’s club scene, fostering a digital-first creative spirit that helped catapult them to early internet buzz.

CSS’s self-released EPs in 2004 led to a deal with Trama Virtual, culminating in their self-titled debut album (2005). This record introduced their vibrant, unpretentious sound, enriched by the members’ backgrounds in graphic design, fashion, and film. The album gained international attention when Sub Pop Records brought it to North America in 2006, sparking tours with artists like Gwen Stefani, Diplo, and Klaxons. Their single "Music Is My Hot, Hot Sex" achieved landmark success after featuring in a 2007 iPod commercial, becoming the highest-charting Billboard single by any Brazilian band.

CSS continued evolving with albums such as "Donkey" (2008), produced by Cintra and mixed by Mark "Spike" Stent, and "La Liberación" (2011), which showcased collaborations with artists like Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream and the electronic duo Ratatat. Following internal changes, including Trevisan’s departure after "Donkey" and Cintra’s exit in 2011, the band released "Planta" (2012), reaffirming their enduring ability to blend dance, punk, and reggae elements into a unique sound. With a lasting influence on alternative dance music, CSS remains a vibrant force originating from São Paulo’s rich cultural landscape.
