About Busta Rhymes

Busta Rhymes, born Trevor Smith Jr. in 1972 in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, is recognized as one of hip-hop’s most dynamic and inventive voices. Raised in a Jamaican family, his Caribbean heritage deeply influenced his rapid-fire, ragga-inspired delivery and intricate lyrical style. After moving to Long Island in 1983, he co-founded the influential group Leaders of the New School, whose albums *Future Without a Past* (1991) and *T.I.M.E.* (1993) showcased the energy of rap’s golden era. The group’s dissolution in 1994 paved the way for Busta Rhymes’ solo breakthrough.

He first garnered widespread attention through standout guest verses on tracks like A Tribe Called Quest’s "Scenario" and Craig Mack’s remix of "Flava in Ya Ear," where he appeared alongside heavyweights such as Notorious B.I.G. and LL Cool J. His 1996 debut album, *The Coming*, propelled him to commercial success with the gold-certified Top Ten hit "Woo-Hah!! Got You All in Check." Over the years, Busta Rhymes continued to solidify his place in hip-hop with albums like *When Disaster Strikes* (1997), *Extinction Level Event* (1998), and the chart-topping *The Big Bang* (2006).

Known for his versatility and collaborations, he has worked with prominent artists including Mary J. Blige, Eminem, and A Tribe Called Quest. More recently, albums such as *Extinction Level Event 2: The Wrath of God* (2020) and *Blockbusta* (2023), featuring contemporary stars like DaBaby, Burna Boy, and Coi Leray, underscore Busta Rhymes’ enduring influence and ability to bridge generations in hip-hop culture.
