About Stabbing Westward

Stabbing Westward, formed in 1985 in Macomb, Illinois, quickly evolved into a seminal force within the late-1990s industrial rock scene. Founded by vocalist Christopher Hall and keyboardist Walter Flakus, the band relocated to Chicago, where lineup changes helped refine their signature blend of dark, atmospheric soundscapes and emotionally charged lyrics. Early attention came from their EP *Iwo Jesus*, which led to a major-label deal with Columbia Records. Their debut album, *Ungod* (1994), laid the groundwork, but commercial success followed with their sophomore release, *Wither Blister Burn & Peel* (1996). This gold-certified album featured charting singles like "What Do I Have to Do?" and "Shame," both of which broke into the Billboard Mainstream Rock Top Ten.

Stabbing Westward solidified their place in alternative music with *Darkest Days* (1998), another gold-certified album highlighted by the hit "Save Yourself," which propelled them further onto the Billboard 200. Transitioning to Koch Records, their 2001 self-titled album showed a shift toward a more polished, pop-infused sound, with the single "So Far Away" securing modest success. After disbanding in 2002, Hall pursued side projects including The Dreaming. Following a 2016 reunion, they returned with the *Dead and Gone* EP (2020) and the full-length album *Chasing Ghosts* (2022), produced by John Fryer, reaffirming their lasting influence on the industrial rock and alternative music landscape.
