About Uncle Acid & the deadbeats

Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats, formed in the late 2000s in Cambridge by guitarist and vocalist Kevin A. Starrs, have established themselves as pioneers of proto-metal infused with psychedelic rock and haunting melodies. The band’s journey began with lo-fi tracks shared on MySpace that evolved into their 2010 debut album, "Vol. 1," later remastered by Rise Above Records in 2017. This raw, garage-recorded sound was further refined on their sophomore release, "Blood Lust," which helped grow their cult following through reissues on Rise Above and Metal Blade.

With 2013’s "Mind Control," recorded with a higher budget, Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats delivered a more powerful yet vintage sound, maintaining their signature blend of sinister riffs and melodic hooks. The 2015 album "The Night Creeper," inspired by pulp crime novels and recorded at Toe Rag Studios with Liam Watson, marked a deepening of their noir aesthetic and broadened their audience through intense live performances. Their politically charged 2018 release, "Wasteland," showcased a dystopian, arena-ready edge, recorded at the iconic Sunset Studio using Van Halen’s vintage echo chamber.

The band’s lineup has evolved over time, with Starrs as the constant creative force collaborating with musicians like bassist Dean Millar, drummer Thomas Mowforth, and guitarist Yotam Rubinger. In a bold artistic shift, 2024’s "Nell’ Ora Blu" steps away from metal roots into atmospheric, mostly instrumental compositions inspired by 1970s Italian cinema, complete with voice-over storytelling and progressive rock elements. This evolution highlights Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats’ dynamic craft, securing their place as a unique and enduring force in modern rock music.
