About Damien Rice

Damien Rice is an Irish singer-songwriter celebrated for his deeply emotive blend of alternative and indie folk music. Rising to prominence in the late 1990s, Rice began his career with the indie rock band Juniper, which released singles like "The World Is Dead" and "Weathermen" under Polygram Records. However, contractual constraints prevented Juniper from recording a full album, leading Rice to embark on a solo journey. After a creative period in Europe, he returned to Dublin where a demo caught the attention of esteemed producer David Arnold, who supported Rice by setting up a mobile studio for his recording efforts.

Rice’s solo breakthrough came with the single "The Blower’s Daughter" (2001), which became a Top 20 hit and set the stage for his debut album, "O" (2002). The album received critical acclaim, achieved quadruple platinum status in the UK, and entered the British Top Ten, establishing him as a compelling voice in contemporary folk music. His heartfelt lyrics and intimate sound resonated globally, leading to extensive touring, including performances at Glastonbury and as a support act for Leonard Cohen.

His second album, "9" (2006), further solidified his international stature by topping the Irish charts, reaching the UK Top Five, and entering the U.S. Top 40. After several years of relative quiet, Rice returned with "My Favourite Faded Fantasy" (2014), produced by legendary Rick Rubin. This album also topped the Irish charts and enjoyed widespread success across Europe, reinforcing Damien Rice’s enduring influence in alternative and folk music.
