About Sheena Easton

Sheena Easton, born Sheena Shirley Orr on April 27, 1959, in Bellshill, Scotland, rose from local performer to one of the defining voices of 1980s pop music. While studying at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama and performing with the band Something Else, Easton caught the public’s attention through the BBC documentary *The Big Time: Pop Singer*. This breakthrough led to a record deal with EMI and an unprecedented achievement: in 1980, she became the first female artist to have two simultaneous UK Top Ten hits with "Modern Girl" and "9 to 5"—the latter retitled "Morning Train" in the U.S. to avoid confusion with Dolly Parton’s song.

Her debut album, *Sheena Easton* (1981), cemented her international appeal as "Morning Train" topped U.S. charts and earned Easton a Grammy Award for Best New Artist. Throughout the decade, she showcased remarkable versatility, from delivering the iconic James Bond theme "For Your Eyes Only" to collaborating with Kenny Rogers on the popular duet "We’ve Got Tonight" (1983). Easton also embraced a more provocative style with *A Private Affair* (1984), featuring the Prince-written hit "Sugar Walls."

Continuing her evolution, Easton scored a major late-1980s hit with "The Lover in Me" (1989) and appeared on the hit TV series *Miami Vice*. Although her last major chart success was in 1991 with *What Comes Naturally*, she smoothly transitioned into musical theatre, starring in productions such as *Man of La Mancha* and *Grease*. Sheena Easton’s enduring career highlights her dynamic talent and adaptability across multiple entertainment genres.
