About Booba

Booba, born Elie Yaffa on September 9, 1976, in Boulogne-Billancourt, France, stands as a pivotal figure in French hardcore rap. His musical journey began in 1994, but it was in 1996 that he gained initial acclaim by co-founding the influential duo Lunatic alongside rapper Ali. Together, they launched the independent label 45 Scientific and released the critically lauded album "Mauvais Œil" (2000), which became a landmark in French hip-hop. After Lunatic disbanded, Booba embarked on a solo career that would define the genre for years.

His debut solo album, "Temps Mort" (2002), earned widespread critical praise and commercial success, securing him a contract with Universal Music. Building on this momentum, "Panthéon" (2004) further cemented his place in the scene. His third solo effort, "Ouest Side" (2006), debuted at number one on French charts but was marked by a personal tragedy—the kidnapping of his mother and brother, who were later safely rescued. Booba continued to dominate the hip-hop landscape with albums like "0.9" (2008) and "Lunatic" (2010), the latter topping charts beyond France, including Belgium.

His 2012 release "Futur" showcased his consistent evolution, blending sharp, gritty lyrics with hard-hitting beats. Known for his resilience amid personal hardships, including the death of close collaborators, Booba remains an authoritative voice and a trailblazer in French rap, respected for both his artistic innovation and crossover appeal, evidenced by collaborations such as "Top of the Game" (2005) with NBA star Tony Parker.
