About Maya Jane Coles

Maya Jane Coles is a renowned London-based producer, songwriter, and DJ who has carved out a distinctive space in contemporary electronic music. Beginning her musical journey as a teenager inspired by rap and trip-hop, she has since evolved into a versatile artist known for blending house and techno under her own name with dub-infused, bass-heavy productions as Nocturnal Sunshine. Her debut release, the "Sick Panda 12" (2008) on Dogmatik, launched a career marked by influential records on respected underground labels like Mobilee, 20:20 Vision, and Hypercolour.

Coles gained widespread recognition with her breakthrough track "What They Say," an instant house classic that was later sampled in Nicki Minaj’s "Truffle Butter" and Katy Perry’s "Swish Swish." In 2013, she released her critically acclaimed debut album "Comfort" on her independent label I/AM/ME, featuring collaborations with artists such as Tricky, Miss Kittin, and Nadine Shah. She followed this with the self-titled Nocturnal Sunshine album (2015) and the ambitious double album "Take Flight" (2017), which showcased both downtempo and house styles alongside contributions from Chelou and GAPS.

Beyond the studio, Maya Jane Coles has toured extensively, performing in over forty countries, and supported Depeche Mode on their European stadium tour in 2017. She is equally celebrated for her inventive remixes of tracks by The xx, Little Dragon, Bonobo, Ella Fitzgerald, and Sia, further solidifying her reputation as a dynamic and influential force in electronic music.
