About Europe

Europe, the iconic Swedish rock band, originated in Stockholm in 1979 under the name Force. The original lineup featured Joey Tempest (vocals), John Norum (guitar), Tony Reno (drums), and John Leven (bass). After winning a national talent contest in the early 1980s, they secured a record deal and released two albums, "Europe" (1983) and "Wings of Tomorrow" (1984), which showcased their progressive rock roots. The addition of keyboardist Mic Michaeli and drummer Ian Haugland, replacing Reno, marked a decisive shift towards a melodic pop-metal sound that would define their international breakthrough.

Europe skyrocketed to global fame with their 1986 album "The Final Countdown," propelled by Michaeli’s signature keyboard riff on the title track and the heartfelt ballad "Carrie." Both singles soared into the Top Ten charts across the U.S. and U.K., cementing Europe's status worldwide. Despite guitarist John Norum’s departure and replacement by Kee Marcello, the band maintained momentum with albums like "Out of This World" (1988) and "Prisoners in Paradise" (1991). After disbanding in 1992, Europe reunited in 2003, releasing a string of acclaimed records such as "Start from the Dark" (2004), "Secret Society" (2006), and the chart-topping "Last Look at Eden" (2009) in Sweden.

Showcasing versatility, Europe explored blues influences on "Bag of Bones" (2012) and embraced a heavier, darker tone with "War of Kings" (2015). Their 30th anniversary was celebrated with a commemorative tour and the release of "Walk the Earth" (2017), produced by Dave Cobb at the legendary Abbey Road Studios. Through decades of evolution, Europe remains a seminal force in rock music, blending memorable hooks with powerful musicianship that continues to resonate with fans worldwide.
