About Killing Joke

Killing Joke emerged from London’s late-1970s underground music scene as a pioneering force blending punk, industrial, and metal influences. Formed in 1978 by vocalist and keyboardist Jaz Coleman and drummer Paul Ferguson, the band soon solidified their lineup with bassist Youth (Martin Glover) and guitarist Geordie (Kevin Walker). Their 1980 debut single "Wardance," followed by their self-titled album the same year, introduced a fierce and apocalyptic sound marked by intense guitars, pounding drums, and Coleman's theatrical vocals. This sound was further developed across their early albums, including *What’s THIS For...!* (1981) and *Revelations* (1982), which established Killing Joke as trailblazers in alternative and industrial rock.

After Coleman briefly left to explore occult interests in Iceland, the band returned with *Fire Dances* (1983) and *Night Time* (1985), the latter offering a more accessible, dance-infused edge that broadened their appeal. Despite lineup changes and periods of hiatus, Killing Joke persevered with critically acclaimed releases like *Pandemonium* (1994) and their 2003 self-titled album, which featured collaborations with Dave Grohl on drums. The band honored bassist Paul Raven’s memory with *Absolute Dissent* (2010) following his 2007 passing. Their continued innovation is evident in albums such as *Pylon* (2015), the *Lord of Chaos* EP (2022), and remix projects like *In Dub Rewind (Vol. 1)* (2021). The death of guitarist Geordie Walker in 2023 marked the end of a significant chapter for this uncompromising and influential group, whose legacy remains deeply embedded in the evolution of post-punk and industrial music.
