About Cutting Crew

Cutting Crew is a British pop rock and new wave band formed in 1985 by guitarist Kevin Scott Macmichael and vocalist Nick Van Eede. The duo first met in Halifax in 1982 while touring with different bands, but their creative partnership truly took shape when Macmichael relocated to England three years later. Joined by bassist Colin Farley and drummer Martin Beedle, Cutting Crew quickly attracted attention with their polished demos, landing a deal with Virgin Records.

Their debut album, *Broadcast* (1986), produced by Terry Brown—renowned for his work with Rush—featured the timeless hit "(I Just) Died In Your Arms." This single skyrocketed to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, solidifying Cutting Crew’s place in ’80s pop rock history. The follow-up, "I've Been In Love Before," also achieved major success, reaching No. 2 on Billboard’s Hot Adult Contemporary chart. Their early acclaim earned them a Grammy nomination for Best New Artist and propelled extensive world tours, including opening for iconic acts like The Bangles, Starship, and Huey Lewis & The News.

The band’s sophomore album, *The Scattering* (1989), continued their chart presence with multiple singles such as "One For The Mockingbird" and "(Between A) Rock And A Hard Place." Although their third album, *Compus Mentus* (1992), was ultimately shelved, Macmichael went on to collaborate with Robert Plant on his 1993 album *Fate Of Nations*. After Macmichael’s passing in 2002, Van Eede revived Cutting Crew alongside guitarist Gareth Moulton. The revitalized lineup has since released *Grinning Souls* (2006) and *Add to Favourites* (2015), maintaining their legacy through global tours alongside ’80s and ’90s contemporaries such as Go West and Berlin. Today, Cutting Crew remains a notable name in the pop rock and new wave genres, celebrated for their enduring hits and influential sound.
