About Soul Coughing

Soul Coughing emerged from the vibrant New York City music scene in 1992, quickly carving out a unique space within alternative rock. Comprised of Mark degli Antoni, Mike Doughty, Yuval Gabay, and Sebastian Steinberg, the band became renowned for its inventive fusion of alternative rock with experimental and genre-blending sounds. Their groundbreaking debut album, "Ruby Vroom" (1994), set the tone with its eclectic mix of jazz, hip-hop beats, and electronic textures, earning critical acclaim and a devoted following. They continued to push musical boundaries with subsequent releases like "Irresistible Bliss" (1996) and "El Oso" (1998), solidifying their reputation as pioneers who influenced the alternative rock landscape throughout the 1990s.

Though Soul Coughing disbanded in 2000, their innovative legacy endured, influencing a wide array of artists across genres. In a much-celebrated comeback, all four original members reunited for their first tour in 25 years during the fall of 2024. This highly anticipated reunion tour showcased selections from their celebrated catalog, reigniting both old fans’ passion and attracting new listeners eager to experience their dynamic, genre-defying sound live. Their return underscored Soul Coughing’s lasting impact as one of alternative rock’s most distinctive and influential acts.
