About Marie Fredriksson

Marie Fredriksson (1958–2019) was a revered Swedish singer, songwriter, and pianist best known as the powerful lead vocalist of the globally successful pop-rock duo Roxette, which she co-founded with Per Gessle in 1986. Born Gun-Marie Fredriksson on May 30, 1958, she began her career in the late 1970s punk scene with the band Strul, notable for creating their own music festival in 1979, before briefly joining MaMas Barn. Fredriksson launched a solo career with her debut album "Het vind" (1984), quickly establishing herself as a prominent figure in Swedish music through subsequent releases like "Den sjunde vågen" (1986) and "...Efter stormen" (1987).

Roxette propelled Fredriksson to international fame with landmark albums such as "Look Sharp!" (1988) and "Joyride" (1991), both delivering multiple Billboard Hot 100 hits, including four number-one singles. Alongside her work with Roxette, she maintained a prolific solo career, releasing acclaimed Swedish-language albums like "Den ständiga resan" (1992) and "I en tid som vår" (1996). Even after her 2002 brain tumor diagnosis, she remained creatively active, producing the English-language "The Change" (2004), the covers album "Min bäste vän" (2006), and the chart-topping Swedish single "Där du andas" (2008). Fredriksson reunited with Gessle for new Roxette projects and tours before releasing the solo album "Nu!" (2013).

Marie Fredriksson’s extraordinary vocal talent and enduring spirit left a lasting imprint on pop music worldwide, cementing her legacy until her passing on December 9, 2019.
