About Daito Manabe

Daito Manabe is a visionary Tokyo-based artist, programmer, composer, and DJ, widely recognized for his groundbreaking fusion of technology, music, and visual media. Since founding Rhizomatiks in 2006, Manabe has pushed the boundaries of interactive art, blurring the lines between the analog and digital worlds. As co-director of Rhizomatiks Research since 2015 alongside Motoi Ishibashi, he leads innovative projects that explore the interplay of the human body, data, and computers through immersive audio-visual performances.

Over two decades, Manabe has become a central figure in Tokyo’s avant-garde creative scene, collaborating with renowned musicians such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Squarepusher, and Björk. His work challenges traditional perceptions by focusing not on hyper-realism, but on unveiling the essential potential within everyday materials and phenomena through technology-driven experiences. Beyond his artistic creations, Manabe contributes academically as a specially-appointed professor at Keio University’s Shonan Fujisawa Campus (SFC).

Further cementing his influence, he co-founded Sonic Planet LTD and leads Studio Daito Manabe, platforms dedicated to blending cutting-edge R&D with artistic expression. Through this multidisciplinary approach, Daito Manabe continues to redefine how music, technology, and visual media converge, shaping the future of interactive design and performance art worldwide.
