About The Adicts

The Adicts are a legendary British punk band that emerged from Ipswich, Suffolk, in the late 1970s. Originally performing as Afterbirth & the Pinz, the quartet—vocalist Monkey (Keith Warren), guitarist Pete Davidson, bassist Mel Ellis, and drummer Kid Dee (Michael Davison)—adopted the name The Adicts in 1979. They quickly became celebrated for their theatrical live shows, featuring playful props such as confetti, bubbles, and toy instruments, coupled with a distinctive visual style inspired by the “droogs” from Stanley Kubrick’s *A Clockwork Orange*. This iconic look included bowler hats and black boots, setting them apart in the punk scene.

The band’s musical debut came with the EP "Lunch with the Adicts" (1979), followed by the critically acclaimed album "Songs of Praise" (1981), which introduced their fan-favorite anthem "Viva la Revolution." The Adicts stood out for blending raw punk energy with melodic hooks and witty lyrics. Their follow-up, "Sound of Music" (1982), broke into the UK charts, and the hit single "Bad Boy" (1983) coincided with a brief stint under the major label Sire Records, during which they temporarily rebranded as ADX.

Over several decades, The Adicts maintained their cult status through albums like "Smart Alex" (1985), "Fifth Overture" (1986), and comeback releases such as "Rise and Shine" (2002), "Rollercoaster" (2004), and "And It Was So!" (2017) on labels including Nuclear Blast. Their enduring appeal lies in their blend of infectious punk riffs, theatrical flair, and an unwavering dedication to their unique identity in punk culture.
