About Stone Temple Pilots

Stone Temple Pilots, formed in 1989, have long been heralded as pioneers of alternative rock and grunge, earning critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase with their powerful blend of raw emotion and melodic innovation. Over the decades, the band's sound has evolved, marked by dynamic songwriting and compelling performances that helped define the 1990s rock scene. In 2017, Jeff Gutt joined as the lead vocalist, bringing a fresh voice to the group’s enduring legacy.

In 2020, Stone Temple Pilots ventured into new musical territory with the release of *Perdida*, their first fully acoustic album. This deeply personal collection of ten tracks explores themes of loss, healing, and renewal. The album’s title, meaning “loss” in Spanish, reflects bassist Robert DeLeo’s view of music as a therapeutic dialogue with his guitar during life’s toughest moments. The writing and recording process unfolded at drummer Eric Kretz’s Bomb Shelter Studios, where the band embraced a minimalist approach. Guitarist Dean DeLeo described the creative direction as “saying more with less,” carefully selecting unconventional instruments to highlight the emotional core of each song.

Frontman Jeff Gutt exhibited an unprecedented level of vulnerability in crafting the album’s introspective lyrics, adding authenticity that resonates deeply with listeners. *Perdida* represents a long-held artistic ambition for Stone Temple Pilots, showcasing their ability to transform personal pain into hauntingly beautiful music while expanding beyond their Grammy-winning repertoire.
