About Gotan Project

Gotan Project is a Paris-based musical trio celebrated for pioneering a unique fusion of traditional Argentine tango and contemporary electronica. Founded in 1999, the group emerged from the creative partnership of Philippe Cohen Solal and Christoph H. Müller, who had previously collaborated on projects like The Boyz From Brazil and Stereo Action Unlimited during the mid-1990s. Their vision found completion with the addition of Argentine musician Eduardo Makaroff, solidifying a sound that marries the melancholic depth of tango with the hypnotic pulse of dub and electronic beats.

The trio first garnered attention with their 2000 debut 10" single, "Vuelvo al sur," released on Solal’s ¡Ya Basta! label. The single’s buzz, especially across European and UK music scenes, led to a deal with XL Recordings. Their 2001 breakthrough album, "La revancha del tango," introduced audiences worldwide to their signature style, supported by extensive touring enhanced with live visuals by artist Prisca Lobjoy. Gotan Project continued to evolve with their 2006 album "Lunático," a tribute named after Carlos Gardel’s legendary racehorse and featuring collaborations with contributors such as Calexico and pianist Gustavo Beytelmann. Their 2010 release, "Tango 3.0," further refined their fusion sound.

In 2011, marking a decade since their debut, Gotan Project revisited "La revancha del tango" with the remix album "La Revancha en Cumbia," exploring contemporary nueva cumbia rhythms. Through their innovative blend of electronic music and passionate South American melodies, Gotan Project remains a defining force in modern tango, captivating listeners across genres and generations.
