About Lucia De Carvalho

Lucia De Carvalho is a compelling musical alchemist whose vibrant voice and deep-rooted rhythms inspire healing and transformation. Born in Luanda, Angola, she spent her early years in Portugal before settling in Meistratzheim, a tranquil village in France’s Alsace region, at the age of twelve. This rich multicultural background, blending African, Portuguese, and French influences, shaped her unique sonic identity.

Her artistic journey blossomed with the Brazilian ensemble Som Brasil, where over a decade she evolved from backing vocalist to lead singer while mastering dance and percussion. These experiences awakened her connection to ancestral rhythms, which became central to her sound. In 2008, Lucia embarked on a solo career, channeling her diverse heritage and life experiences into original compositions with her debut EP released in 2011.

A pivotal moment arrived that same year when she met Edouard Heilbronn, an Alsatian bassist recently returned from abroad. Their creative partnership and shared passion for vibrant, uplifting music led to electrifying performances, captivating audiences across Europe.

Her artistic and spiritual explorations culminated in the 2016 release of "Kuzola"—an evocative album accompanied by a documentary that captures her transformative travels through Brazil and Angola. Lucia De Carvalho’s work invites listeners into an intimate dialogue between past and present, reconnecting with ancestral roots through soulful melodies and rhythmic expression that transcend borders.
