About Arlo

Arlo is a distinctive indie-rock band that emerged from the vibrant Los Angeles music scene in the mid-1990s. Founded by guitarists and vocalists Nate Greely and Sean Spillane during their college years, the group initially performed under the name Otto. Despite several changes in their rhythm section, they managed to release a split single on Glimmerfed Records. The lineup eventually solidified with bassist Shmedley and drummer Soup, both of whom brought experience from the local band Holliston Stops.

Rechristened as Arlo—a nod to their favorite club soundman—the band caught the attention of influential label Sub Pop and signed with them in 2000. That same year, they released a 7" single that paved the way for their debut album, "Up High in the Night" (2001). This release showcased their quirky, melodic indie rock style, blending catchy pop-rock hooks with an offbeat charm. They followed up with "Stab the Unstoppable Hero" (2002), further refining their sound and securing their place within the early 2000s alternative music landscape.

Throughout their career, Arlo has been known for crafting accessible yet inventive guitar-driven compositions, carving out a unique niche in indie rock. Their fresh approach and engaging style continue to resonate with fans who appreciate inventive melodies paired with vibrant energy.
