About DeVotchKa

DeVotchKa, a Denver-based quartet formed in 1997, has become renowned for their eclectic fusion of cabaret, spaghetti Western soundscapes, norteño rhythms, punk energy, and Eastern European immigrant dance music. The group’s founding members—Nick Urata (vocals, guitar, trumpet), Tom Hagerman (violin, accordion), Jeanie Schroder (sousaphone, bass), and Shawn King (percussion)—started out as a backing band for local burlesque shows before releasing their debut album, "Supermelodrama" (2000). Building on early momentum, they followed with albums like "Una Volta" (2003) and achieved wider recognition with "How It Ends" (2004), whose title track gained notable exposure in commercials, film trailers, and video games such as *Gears of War 2* and the film *Everything Is Illuminated*.

DeVotchKa’s career breakthrough came in 2006 when their Grammy-nominated score for the acclaimed indie film *Little Miss Sunshine* brought them into the mainstream spotlight. Signing with Anti- Records, they released "A Mad & Faithful Telling" (2008), which climbed to number nine on the Billboard Heatseekers chart, followed by the cinematic and evocative "100 Lovers" (2011). Their innovative approach also included a collaboration with the Colorado Symphony in 2012, blending orchestral grandeur with their signature world-infused indie rock.

After a hiatus during which Urata pursued film scoring—including projects like *Paddington* and Netflix’s *A Series of Unfortunate Events*—DeVotchKa returned in 2018 with "This Night Falls Forever," released via Concord Records. This album reaffirmed their talent for weaving global musical traditions into a fresh and dynamic indie soundscape, solidifying their unique position in contemporary music.
