About Clan of Xymox

Clan of Xymox is a pioneering Dutch band that originated in Nijmegen in 1981, founded by Ronny Moorings, who remains the group’s sole constant member. Initially performing under the name Xymox, they quickly became key figures in the darkwave, gothic rock, and synth-pop scenes. Their breakthrough came with the 1983 EP "Subsequent Pleasures," which introduced their haunting, ethereal sound marked by moody, atmospheric synth textures and introspective lyrics.

After signing with the influential UK label 4AD, the band adopted the name Clan of Xymox and released their self-titled album in 1985. This record, featuring the standout track "A Day," firmly established their reputation within the gothic and darkwave communities and helped grow an international following. Over the ensuing decades, Clan of Xymox has maintained a distinctive style that blends melancholic soundscapes with themes of love, loss, and self-reflection—concepts that resonate deeply with fans and contemporary artists alike.

Despite numerous lineup changes, Moorings’ vision has guided the band’s ongoing evolution, ensuring a steady output of albums and tours that keep Clan of Xymox relevant within alternative music circles.
