About Rival Consoles

Rival Consoles is the electronic music project of Ryan Lee West, a Leicester-born producer and composer born on November 10, 1985. West began his career in 2007 on Erased Tapes Records, initially releasing music under the name Aparatec before adopting the Rival Consoles moniker with the critically acclaimed "Decadent" EP. Early works such as the glitch-inspired "Vemeer" EP and his 2009 debut album "IO" established him as a distinctive voice in experimental electronic music, blending intricate IDM rhythms with complex synth textures.

Over the years, Rival Consoles’ sound has evolved from electro-house and club-oriented beats, as heard on "Kid Velo" (2011), to a more ambient, minimalist approach exemplified by albums like "Howl" (2015) and "Persona" (2018), which incorporated shoegaze and modern classical influences. His 2021 release, "Overflow," offers a thoughtful critique of digital culture and social media, while his 2022 album "Now Is" showcases a refined fusion of acoustic and electronic elements, solidifying his reputation as a forward-thinking artist who pushes creative boundaries.

Beyond solo work, Rival Consoles has demonstrated versatility through collaborations with fellow musicians such as Nico Muhly and Codes in the Clouds, as well as partnerships in multimedia projects and tours alongside artists like Clark and Nosaj Thing. Known for his masterful use of analog equipment and conceptual compositions, Rival Consoles continues to shape the landscape of contemporary electronic music with his innovative and emotionally resonant sound.
