About Sam Brookes

Sam Brookes is a British singer-songwriter renowned for his deeply evocative folk music, rooted in the rich traditions of the 1960s British and American folk revivals. Beginning his musical journey at just sixteen while apprenticing as a gilder in his late father’s workshop, Brookes developed a meticulous, introspective songwriting style that mirrors the craftsmanship of his early trade.

His career took a significant leap forward with the self-released album *Kairos* (2014), which garnered critical acclaim and was highlighted by *The Independent* as one of the year's standout records, even drawing mentions as a potential Mercury Prize contender. Building on this foundation, Brookes released *Black Feathers* (2020), an album produced by Grammy-nominated Dom Monks, celebrated for his collaborations with artists such as Big Thief, Laura Marling, and Nick Cave. This project showcased an impressive lineup of collaborators including Ethan Johns, Neil Cowley, Nick Pini, Daisy Palmer, Sam Sweeney, and Rob Pemberton. The album’s title track gained additional recognition through its inclusion in Sky’s original series *The Day of the Jackal*, starring Eddie Redmayne.

In recent years, Brookes has expanded his artistic horizons by teaming up with artist and producer Pete Josef under the moniker Supalung. He continues to evolve his solo sound and is currently working on new material slated for release in early 2025. Sam Brookes’ music remains a compelling blend of traditional folk influences and contemporary storytelling, securing his place in today’s folk landscape.
