About The Mystery Lights

The Mystery Lights are a dynamic rock band that originated in 2004 in Salinas, California, founded by friends Michael Brandon and Luis Alfonso. United by their admiration for seminal groups like The MC5, Velvet Underground, Dead Moon, and The Fall, they cultivated a raw and energetic sound that fuses primal rock intensity with soulful grit. After nearly a decade of relentless touring, the duo relocated to Queens, New York in 2014, where their electrifying live presence and authentic vibe quickly captured the attention of Daptone Records.

Their breakthrough came with the debut single "Too Many Girls" b/w "Too Tough to Bear," released on Daptone’s rock-focused imprint Wick Records. The single garnered widespread critical acclaim, firmly establishing The Mystery Lights within the underground rock scene. Building on this momentum, they spent two intense years on the road before returning to Queens to record their sophomore album, "Too Much Tension!" (2019). This release marked a stylistic evolution, blending eerie synthesizer textures inspired by acts like The Normal and Suicide with the swagger of classic punk, the melodic catchiness reminiscent of The Kinks, and the precise musicianship akin to Television.

With their fearless fusion of garage rock, punk energy, and experimental soundscapes, The Mystery Lights continue to push the boundaries of contemporary underground rock, all while honoring their roots in unfiltered, high-octane rock and roll.
