About Jaakko Eino Kalevi

Jaakko Eino Kalevi is a Finnish multi-instrumentalist and visionary artist from Jyväskylä, renowned for his eclectic fusion of folk, funk, psych-rock, and experimental synth-pop. His musical journey began in childhood, sparked by an unlikely combination of progressive metal band Dream Theater and hip-hop. This early inspiration led him to teach himself guitar and beat-making software before expanding his sonic palette to include reggae, disco, and techno.

Kalevi’s evolving sound is showcased across a diverse discography, starting with the coldwave-influenced *Modern Life* (2010) and the atmospheric *Dreamzone* EP (2013). His breakthrough came with the self-titled album *Jaakko Eino Kalevi* (2015) on Domino Records’ Weird World imprint, where his signature ’80s-inspired textured pop took center stage. The introspective *Out of Touch* (2018), recorded solely by Kalevi in Helsinki and Berlin, deepened his exploration of dreamy, synth-driven pop. In 2019, the mini-album *Dissolution* introduced a rawer, funk-inflected style with sparse dance beats and spacey synths.

Kalevi’s most ambitious work to date, the 2023 double album *Chaos Magic*, blends melodic pop with darkwave, dub reggae, and jazz-tinged psych-rock. Featuring collaborations with notable artists like Alma Jodorowsky, Jimi Tenor, and John Moods, this release cements his reputation as a trailblazer in contemporary experimental pop. Alongside solo European tours, Jaakko Eino Kalevi has contributed his talents to projects like David Byrne’s *American Utopia* (2018) and Belgian new wave group Aksak Maboul, further highlighting his versatile artistry and enduring impact on the modern music scene.
