About Baltra

Baltra, born Michael in Philadelphia and now based in New York, has spent over a decade shaping a distinctive sound that fuses romantic melancholy with infectious dancefloor energy. Emerging during the mid-2010s lo-fi house wave alongside contemporaries like Mall Grab, Ross From Friends, and DJ Seinfeld, Baltra quickly made a name for himself through meticulous production and a fresh approach that often eschews heavy sampling. Instead, he frequently incorporates his own vocals or collaborations, notably with Park Hye Jin, adding a deeply personal touch to his tracks.

His debut album, *Ted* (2019), showcased his versatile command of tempos and moods, bridging emotional depth and club-ready beats. Building on this foundation, Baltra released two acclaimed EPs in 2021: *Ambition* on Local Action and *Dreaming Of A Disco* on Shall Not Fade’s Bristol-based sub-label Lost Palms. These projects featured remixes from respected artists such as CFCF, Ariel Zetina, and Martyn Bootyspoon, further cementing his reputation for creative collaborations.

Running his own imprint, 96 and Forever Records, Baltra continues to push boundaries. His nostalgic 2022 single "Tell Me," part of the forthcoming *Where I End* EP, exemplifies his ability to craft irresistibly evocative tracks that resonate on both intimate and dancefloor levels. With millions of streams across major platforms, Baltra stands out as a compelling voice in the evolving electronic music landscape.
