About Camille

Camille Dalmais, known simply as Camille, is a French singer-songwriter born in Paris in 1978. Initially trained in ballet, she discovered her passion for music as a teenager, inspired by a blend of ’60s folk, ’70s soul, bossa nova, and American musicals. Her professional journey began with a role in the 2001 film *Les Morsures de l’Aube*, contributing the song “La Vie la Nuit” to its soundtrack. Camille’s debut album, *Le Sac de Filles* (2002), released on Virgin’s Source label, earned critical and commercial acclaim, highlighted by the standout single “Demeure d’un Ciel.”

In 2004, Camille gained international recognition through her collaboration with the group Nouvelle Vague, where she lent her distinctive voice to bossa nova covers of punk and new wave classics, including The Clash’s “The Guns of Brixton.” Returning to her solo work, she released *Le Fil* (2005), propelled by the hit “Ta Douleur.” This album won her the prestigious Victoires de la Musique Awards for Best New Album and Breakthrough Live Act, cementing her place in contemporary French pop. Camille’s inventive approach continued on *Music Hole* (2008), showcasing vocal percussion and using her body as an instrument, and on *Ilo Veyou* (2011), which embraced a more intimate mix of folk and chanson.

Her voice reached wider audiences with the song “Le Festin,” featured in Pixar’s *Ratatouille* (2007), and contributions to *The Little Prince* (2015). Camille’s 2017 album, *Oui*, recorded in a 14th-century monastery, explored innovative soundscapes and interpretation, highlighting her evolution as a boundary-pushing artist. Throughout her career, Camille has blended traditional French chanson with experimental pop, continually redefining her musical identity.
