About Jamie xx

Jamie xx, born Jamie Smith in Putney in 1988, stands as a pioneering figure in contemporary electronic music. Beginning his musical journey as a drummer, he soon embraced electronic production with an Akai MPC, which shaped his distinctive sound both in the studio and live performances. In 2006, Smith co-founded the xx with school friends Oliver Sim and Romy Madley Croft, crafting a minimalist blend of indie, R&B, and electronic music that gained critical acclaim with their Mercury Prize-winning debut, *xx* (2009).

Jamie xx’s reputation as a transformative remixer flourished through collaborations with artists like Adele, Florence + the Machine, and Gil Scott-Heron. His work on Scott-Heron’s "I’m New Here" was reimagined in the acclaimed remix album *We’re New Here* (2011). He also contributed production to high-profile projects such as Drake’s "Take Care" and albums by Alicia Keys and Radiohead.

Launching a solo career, Jamie xx released his debut singles "Far Nearer/Beat For" (2011) before delivering his critically acclaimed album *In Colour* (2015). The record, blending atmospheric soundscapes with energetic beats, featured collaborations with Four Tet, Young Thug, and Popcaan, reaching number three on the UK Albums Chart and earning Mercury Prize, Grammy, and BRIT Award nominations.

After reuniting with the xx for their chart-topping *I See You* (2017), Jamie xx evolved his style with harder-edged singles like "Idontknow" (2020) and "Let’s Do It Again" (2022). This progression culminated in his sophomore album *In Waves* (2024), showcasing collaborations with Robyn, Panda Bear, and the Avalanches. Beyond the dancefloor, Jamie xx has also composed scores for ballet and film, cementing his status as one of the UK’s most innovative electronic musicians.
