Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, formed in 1976, stand as one of America's most iconic rock bands, known for their seamless blend of jangly guitars inspired by the Byrds and the raw, rhythmic energy reminiscent of the Rolling Stones. Fronted by Tom Petty’s evocative songwriting, the band captured the dreams and struggles of everyday Americans through straightforward yet emotionally rich narratives. Their self-titled debut album earned critical acclaim, but it was their 1979 release, "Damn the Torpedos," that propelled them to commercial success, selling over two million copies amid Petty’s personal financial hardships.

Throughout the 1980s, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers continuously evolved, balancing hard-driving rock with melodic pop. Petty’s 1989 solo album, "Full Moon Fever," became his most celebrated work, fueling momentum for the band’s platinum-certified "Into the Great Wide Open" (1991). The Heartbreakers’ catalogue expanded with notable albums such as "Wildflowers" (1994), "Echo" (1999), and the socially conscious "The Last DJ" (2002). Their final studio effort, "Hypnotic Eye" (2014), marked their first number-one album, underscoring the band’s enduring relevance.
