About At the Drive‐In

At the Drive-In, a trailblazing post-hardcore band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 1994, is celebrated for its intense emotional melodies and complex, unpredictable rhythms. The original lineup featured Cedric Bixler on vocals, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Jim Ward on guitars, Paul Hinojos on bass, and Tony Hajjar on drums. Starting with early releases like the EPs "Hell Paso" and "Alfaro Vive, Carajo!" and their 1996 debut album "Acrobatic Tenement," the band steadily built a devoted fan base despite playing sparsely attended shows. Their sound evolved through subsequent releases, including the "El Gran Orgo" EP (1997), and the albums "In/Casino/Out" (1998) and the critically acclaimed "Relationship of Command" (2000), which cemented their influence within the alternative rock landscape.

Following an indefinite hiatus in 2001, members pursued new projects—most notably, Bixler and Rodriguez-Lopez formed The Mars Volta, while Ward, Hajjar, and Hinojos launched Sparta. At the Drive-In reunited in 2012 with festival appearances and reissued material on their Twenty-First Chapter label. In 2016, after The Mars Volta’s breakup, the band officially returned to recording and touring, albeit without Jim Ward, who departed that year. Their comeback album, "in•ter a•li•a" (2017) on Rise Records, introduced a refreshed lineup featuring former Sparta guitarist Keeley Davis and included singles such as "Governed by Contagions" and "Incurably Innocent." Later that year, the band released the EP "Diamanté," further solidifying their enduring legacy as pioneers of emotionally charged post-hardcore music.
