About The Sabres of Paradise

The Sabres of Paradise emerged in the early 1990s as one of Britain’s most innovative experimental techno collectives. Founded by renowned DJ and producer Andrew Weatherall, alongside collaborators Jagz Kooner and Gary Burns, the group quickly gained acclaim for their boundary-pushing sound that blended warped electronics with inventive rhythms. Originating from the UK, this trio became a creative force within the post-techno scene, reshaping dancefloor norms with standout tracks like "Smokebelch," "Theme," and "Wilmott."

Their critically acclaimed 1994 album, "Haunted Dancehall," solidified their reputation as pioneers who bridged the gap between traditional techno and emerging experimental electronic music. Released on influential labels such as Warp and Weatherall’s own Sabrettes imprint, their singles and EPs garnered widespread recognition in the club scene and beyond.

The Sabres of Paradise’s impact extended well past their own releases. Andrew Weatherall’s extensive remix and production work for notable artists—including Primal Scream, Björk, The Orb, James, Happy Mondays, and Bomb the Bass—further influenced the evolving landscape of electronic music through the 1990s. After the group disbanded in 1995, Weatherall continued his innovative trajectory with the Two Lone Swordsmen project, maintaining his status as a visionary figure in electronic music.

The Sabres of Paradise remain a vital chapter in the history of British experimental techno, celebrated for pushing the genre’s creative and sonic boundaries.
