About Objekt

Berlin-based producer Objekt, born TJ Hertz in Tokyo and raised across Belgium and the U.K., has established himself as a pioneering figure in contemporary electronic music. Growing up in Oxford, Hertz developed a deep fascination with ’90s IDM and techno, which later shaped his innovative approach. After studying electronic and information engineering at Oxford University, he relocated to Berlin, where his influential work at Native Instruments helped refine his distinctive production style.

Objekt first emerged in the electronic scene with self-released singles starting in 2011, blending dubstep, techno, and IDM in unconventional ways that quickly gained attention. His 2014 debut album, "Flatland," released on the Pan label, was lauded for its forward-thinking reimagining of techno, combining complex rhythms with glitchy textures reminiscent of Aphex Twin and Autechre. The 2017 single "Theme from Q" became a widely celebrated club anthem, while the 2018 album "Cocoon Crush" pushed deeper into abstract and experimental sound design.

Continuing to evolve, Objekt explored dancehall influences on his 2022 release "Objekt #5." In 2024, he launched his own label, Kapsela, debuting with the "Ganzfeld" project—reworking a classic 2014 collaboration with Dopplereffekt—and the intricate single "Chicken Garaage." Known for his inventive soundscapes and relentless innovation, Objekt remains a leading force in techno and IDM, continually pushing the boundaries of electronic music.
