About Hayseed Dixie

Hayseed Dixie, formed on September 22, 2000, in Tennessee, forged a distinct niche by pioneering the genre known as "Rockgrass"—a vibrant fusion of traditional bluegrass instrumentation and high-energy rock ’n’ roll. The band’s inception was inspired by John Wheeler, known by his stage name Barley Scotch, who discovered vintage AC/DC vinyls near Deer Lick Holler, East Tennessee. This serendipitous find sparked the realization of a unique connection between Appalachian mountain music and classic hard rock, inspiring Hayseed Dixie to reinterpret rock anthems with a bluegrass twist.

Their breakthrough came with the release of "A Hillbilly Tribute to AC/DC" (2001), a bold debut album featuring acoustic bluegrass renditions of AC/DC’s greatest hits. The album gained unexpected traction, selling over 200,000 copies in its first year and establishing Hayseed Dixie as more than just a novelty act. Over the years, the Nashville-based ensemble has maintained a prolific output, issuing more than nineteen albums and EPs that not only revisit rock, pop, and metal classics but also include original compositions infused with their signature blend of hillbilly flair and rock attitude.

Known for their relentless touring and spirited performances, Hayseed Dixie has captivated a global audience while continuously pushing the boundaries of genre. Their innovative approach and playful musicianship have solidified their legacy as trailblazers who redefine the possibilities of acoustic music infused with rock’s electric energy.
