About K’s Choice

K’s Choice, formed in 1994 by Belgian siblings Sam and Gert Bettens, quickly established themselves as a cornerstone of alternative rock with their emotionally charged lyrics and a distinctive blend of raw grunge and melodic introspection. Originating from Antwerp, the duo initially performed under the name the Basement Plugs before adopting K’s Choice, a change prompted by the existence of an American band called the Choice. Their debut album, "The Great Subconscious Club" (1994), laid the groundwork, but it was the 1996 album "Paradise in Me" that catapulted them to international fame. Featuring the haunting hit "Not an Addict," the album achieved platinum status in Belgium and the Netherlands and reached number 121 on the Billboard 200 in the U.S.

K’s Choice’s sound evolved over time, with the 1998 release "Cocoon Crash," produced by Gil Norton, showcasing a lighter tone and hits like "Believe." Their introspective approach deepened with albums such as "Almost Happy" (2000). After touring extensively alongside acts like Morphine and Alanis Morissette, the band went on hiatus in 2002, during which Sam and Gert pursued solo projects. Sam released a trilogy of solo albums starting with "Scream" (2005), while Gert concentrated on production and the band Woodface.

Reuniting in 2010, K’s Choice delivered "Echo Mountain," recorded in North Carolina, followed by "Waving at the Sun" (2013), "Phantom Cowboy" (2015), and "Love = Music" (2018). Their enduring appeal lies in Sam’s smoky vocals combined with heartfelt songwriting and dynamic instrumentation. Celebrating 25 years with the retrospective "25" (2017) — including a reimagined "Not an Addict" featuring Skin from Skunk Anansie — K’s Choice remains Belgium’s premier alternative rock export, continually reinventing themselves through acoustic reinterpretations and electronic experimentation, securing their place as an evergreen act in the international music scene.
