About Robert Lester Folsom

Robert Lester Folsom, a Georgia-born singer-songwriter, is celebrated for his warm, breezy soft rock and AM pop songs tinged with subtle psychedelic undertones. Raised on the music of Johnny Cash, Bob Dylan, and the Beatles, Folsom’s passion for songwriting emerged early. In high school, he experimented with a Sears reel-to-reel four-track recorder, honing a distinctive sound that blended introspective folk with gentle psychedelia. After attending South Georgia College, he formed the band Abacus, performing locally before moving to Atlanta to pursue a solo career.

In 1978, Folsom released his debut—and for many years, only—album, "Music & Dreams," produced with engineer Stan Dacus. Pressed in a limited run of just 1,000 copies, the record saw regional airplay primarily in Georgia and Florida but struggled to gain wider recognition. Financial pressures soon pushed Folsom to step away from music to work as a house painter.

Decades later, independent labels Mexican Summer and South Korea’s Riverman Music revived interest in Folsom’s work by reissuing "Music & Dreams" in 2010. This resurgence sparked new creativity, leading to subsequent releases such as "Beautiful Nonsense" (2016) and "Abacus Atlanta Sessions" (2020). Archival collections like "Ode to a Rainy Day: Archives 1972–1975" (2014) and "Sunshine Only Sometimes: Archives Vol. 2, 1972–1975" (2022) showcased previously unheard, often moodier, psychedelic demos. Today, Robert Lester Folsom stands as a rediscovered icon of 1970s indie folk-pop, whose timeless melodies continue to resonate with new generations of listeners.
