About Anthrax

Anthrax is a pioneering American heavy metal band that helped shape the speed and thrash metal genres alongside contemporaries like Metallica and Megadeth. Formed in the early 1980s, the band distinguished itself by merging the raw energy of hardcore punk with powerful guitar riffs and aggressive vocals, creating a unique blend of intensity and humor. Founding guitarists Scott Ian and Dan Spitz crafted the band’s signature lightning-fast riffs, while the addition of vocalist Joey Belladonna and bassist Frank Bello propelled Anthrax to new heights.

Following their debut album “Fistful of Metal,” Anthrax released a string of influential records throughout the late 1980s, including the critically acclaimed “Persistence of Time” (1990). The band stood out for its willingness to experiment, most notably through their groundbreaking collaboration with hip-hop group Public Enemy on a re-recording of “Bring the Noise” in 1991, bridging genres in a way few metal bands had attempted.

Significant lineup changes came in the 1990s, with John Bush replacing Belladonna in 1992. This era produced albums like “Sound of White Noise” (1993) and “Volume 8: The Threat Is Real” (1998), showcasing a more evolved sound. After reuniting the classic lineup by 2005, Anthrax enjoyed a resurgence with “Worship Music” (2011), earning a Grammy nomination and reaffirming their relevance. Their eleventh studio album, “For All Kings” (2016), along with live releases such as the concert film “XL” (2022), celebrate four decades of influence, underlining Anthrax’s enduring legacy in the metal world.
