About Nile

Nile is a groundbreaking technical death metal band formed in Greenville, South Carolina, in 1993. Founded by guitarist and vocalist Karl Sanders alongside bassist/vocalist Chief Spires and drummer Pete Hammoura, the group quickly carved out a unique niche by fusing brutal, high-speed death metal with evocative Middle Eastern melodies and themes inspired by ancient Egyptian history and the cosmic horror of H.P. Lovecraft. This distinctive “Ithyphallic Metal” sound first captured widespread attention with their 1998 debut full-length album, "Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka," released through Relapse Records.

Early momentum was bolstered by their 1995 EP "Festivals of Atonement" and touring with death metal icons like Obituary and Deicide. The addition of guitarist and vocalist Dallas Toler-Wade on albums such as "Black Seeds of Vengeance" (2000) and the critically praised "In Their Darkened Shrines" (2002) brought increased musical complexity and depth. A major lineup shift occurred with the arrival of drummer George Kollias on "Annihilation of the Wicked" (2005), marking a new era of technical precision.

After signing with Nuclear Blast Records, Nile continued to evolve, releasing acclaimed works like "Ithyphallic" (2007), "Those Whom the Gods Detest" (2009), and their highest-charting album to date, "At the Gate of Sethu" (2012). The band’s enduring legacy was reaffirmed with "Vile Nilotic Rites" (2019), which introduced new members Brian Kingsland and Brad Parris, ensuring Nile's position as pioneers in extreme metal who masterfully blend relentless aggression with rich, ancient mysticism.
