Dry Cleaning is a distinctive four-piece band from South London, renowned for their avant-garde approach to rock music. The lineup features frontwoman Florence Shaw, guitarist Tom Dowse, drummer Nick Buxton, and bassist Lewis Maynard. Drawing inspiration from early 1980s US punk and hardcore, the band infuses their sound with a range of influences including Keith Richards’ swagger, stoner rock, no wave experimentation, and delicate pastoral fingerpicking. This eclectic mix creates a rich sonic palette that sets them apart in the contemporary rock scene.

Central to Dry Cleaning’s identity is Florence Shaw’s unique spoken-word vocal style, which evokes the storytelling traditions of pioneers like Laurie Anderson and Sue Tompkins of Life Without Buildings. Her delivery cuts through the band's intricate instrumentals, forming vivid, cinematic soundscapes that explore urban dystopian themes with wit and nuance.
