About Cimafunk

Cimafunk, born in 1989 in Cuba’s Pinar del Río Province, is a groundbreaking Afro-Cuban artist reshaping contemporary Cuban music with his infectious blend of funk, Afro-Cuban rhythms, Latin sounds, and electronic influences. His stage name pays tribute to the cimarrones—Africans who escaped slavery in Cuba—reflecting his dedication to celebrating Black identity and heritage worldwide.

Cimafunk’s rise to international acclaim began with his debut album *Terapia* (2018), propelled by the hit single "Me Voy," which ignited a global groove movement and earned him widespread recognition, including a standout NPR Tiny Desk Concert performance. Leading his vibrant nine-piece band, La Tribu, he has captivated audiences at major festivals such as Coachella, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, and Lollapalooza Chile.

With his sophomore album *El Alimento* (2021), Cimafunk pushed musical boundaries further, earning multiple Grammy nominations and critical praise from legends like George Clinton, Fito Páez, and Chucho Valdés. His latest release, *Pa’ Tu Cuerpa* (2024), marks a polished evolution in his sound, showcasing an innovative fusion of genres that continues to redefine Afro-Cuban music for a new generation. Always dynamic and visionary, Cimafunk remains at the forefront of global music, breaking down cultural barriers with electrifying performances and an ever-evolving sonic identity.
