About Quique González

Quique González, born in Madrid in 1973, has carved a distinct niche as one of Spain’s most resonant singer-songwriters. Early in his career, after exploring musical opportunities in Mallorca and London, he returned to Madrid to fully immerse himself in the local scene. His breakthrough moment came in 1998 through a memorable televised performance alongside Enrique Urquijo, featuring the song "Aunque Tú No Lo Sepas," which brought him national recognition.

Despite early setbacks with major labels, González independently released his debut album before signing with PolyGram, which released his sophomore album, *Salitre 48* (2001). His reputation for blending candid, witty, and deeply emotional lyrics solidified with *Pájaros Mojados* (2002). Seeking creative autonomy, he co-founded Varsovia!!! Records in 2003, releasing *Kamikazes Enamorados* independently. Later signing with DRO Atlantic, he expanded his reach with *Ajuste de Cuentas* (2006), a live album featuring collaborations with artists like Enrique Bunbury and Jorge Drexler, and then achieved critical acclaim with *Avería y Redención* (2007), hailed by Rolling Stone Spain as the best national album of the year and nominated for Best Rock Album at the Premios de la Música.

In 2009, González relocated to Nashville to collaborate with producer Brad Jones and notable musicians such as Al Perkins, enriching his sound with American roots influences on *Daiquiri Blues* (2009). After a brief hiatus, he returned with the introspective *Delantera Mítica* (2013), which featured a Spanish cover of Bob Dylan’s "Is Your Love in Vain?". His latest album, *Me Mata Si Me Necesitas* (2016), produced by Ricky Falkner with a purely Spanish band, reaffirmed his status in Spain’s rock scene, premiering uniquely through a streaming partnership with the newspaper El País.

Throughout his evolving career, Quique González has consistently fused heartfelt storytelling with rich collaborations, securing his place as a compelling and enduring voice in contemporary Spanish music.
