About Nelly

Nelly, born Cornell Iral Haynes Jr. in St. Louis, Missouri, is a pioneering figure in hip-hop known for his distinctive blend of Southern drawl and Midwestern flair. Emerging as a teenager, he co-founded the rap group St. Lunatics, which gained local recognition with the 1996 single "Gimmie What You Got." When group record deals stalled, Nelly launched a solo career that quickly redefined mainstream rap success.

His 2000 debut album, "Country Grammar," became a diamond-certified phenomenon, propelled by infectious singles like the title track, "Ride wit Me," and "E.I." This breakthrough set the stage for his follow-up, "Nellyville" (2002), which dominated multiple Billboard charts simultaneously and included Grammy-winning hits such as "Hot in Herre" and the Kelly Rowland duet "Dilemma." Throughout the 2000s, Nelly continued his streak with projects like the remix album "Derrty Versions" (2003) and the dual-disc "Sweatsuit" (2005), featuring the chart-topping "Grillz."

Expanding his creative horizons, Nelly embraced both hip-hop and country-pop influences, collaborating with artists ranging from Justin Timberlake to Tim McGraw. Albums like "5.0" (2010) and "M.O." (2013) showcased his versatility, including collaborations with Pharrell, Nicki Minaj, and Nelly Furtado. Beyond music, he ventured into television with the BET reality show "Nellyville" (2014). His 2021 album "Heartland" marked a bold fusion of his roots and modern country-rap, featuring partnerships with Jimmie Allen and Florida Georgia Line.
