About ABRIL Fado Atlántico

ABRIL Fado Atlántico is a unique musical project born in Ferrolterra in 2007 that masterfully blends traditional Portuguese fado with diverse Atlantic styles such as tango and Brazilian choro. Central to the ensemble’s innovative sound is Argentine guitarist Daniel Adzemian, whose expert arrangements and original compositions drive the group’s creative vision. The project’s signature sound remains rooted in classic fado instrumentation, enriched by a deep respect for its rich cultural heritage.

Their debut album, "Pazo da Merced" (2009), introduced the project with lead vocals by Noelia Santos and included collaborations with classical guitarist José Calabuig. Over time, ABRIL Fado Atlántico expanded its artistic horizons, working alongside prominent Portuguese fadistas Emanuel Soares and Mara Pedro on the album "Fado alma do mundo," which featured poetry by Isidoro Cavaco, Mario Rainho, and Galician poet Aurora Varela. This blend of literary and musical artistry highlights the group’s commitment to transcending traditional boundaries.

In 2022, the group released "Longe de Lisboa," their second album sung entirely in Galician. Showcasing eight original songs alongside inventive interpretations, the album prominently features vocalist Sara de Sousa, known for her performances across Northern Portugal. Further evolving their sound, ABRIL’s 2025 album "Silencios" includes three original tracks—one instrumental—and a Portuguese rendition of Charles Aznavour’s classic "La Bohème." The current lineup is rounded out by classically trained guitarist Javier Moreno, whose expertise adds depth and authenticity to ABRIL Fado Atlántico’s ever-evolving musical journey.

Through an engaging fusion of tradition and innovation, ABRIL Fado Atlántico continues to redefine fado while honoring its Atlantic roots, making them a distinctive voice in contemporary world music.
