About The Bangles

The Bangles, an influential all-female pop rock band, emerged from Los Angeles in 1981, blending chiming British Invasion-style guitar riffs with the vibrant energy of new wave. The original trio—Vicki Peterson (guitar/vocals), Debbi Peterson (drums/vocals), and Susanna Hoffs (guitar/vocals)—originally performed under the name the Bangs before adopting the name The Bangles due to a naming conflict. After adding bassist Annette Zilinskas and later Michael Steele, formerly of the Runaways, the band refined their sound and expanded their appeal.

Their early work, including the self-titled EP and the 1984 album "All Over the Place," established them within college radio circles with tracks like "Hero Takes a Fall" and a cover of "Going Down to Liverpool." The Bangles achieved major commercial success with their 1986 album "Different Light," which featured Prince’s penned hit "Manic Monday" and the iconic "Walk Like an Egyptian," a four-week U.S. chart-topper that cemented their place in 1980s pop culture.

Their subsequent album, "Everything" (1988), included the heartfelt ballad "Eternal Flame," further showcasing their polished and evolving sound. Despite platinum-level success, internal tensions led to their breakup in 1989. The members pursued solo endeavors before reuniting in the late 1990s, producing albums such as "Doll Revolution" (2003) and "Sweetheart of the Sun" (2011), the latter produced by Matthew Sweet. Today, The Bangles continue touring and releasing music, upholding their legacy as one of the most successful and enduring female bands from the 1980s.
