About Vicente Fernández

Vicente Fernández, born on February 17, 1940, in Huentitán el Alto, Guadalajara, Mexico, is celebrated as "The King of Ranchera" and one of Latin America's most iconic cultural figures. From a young age, Fernández nurtured his passion for singing and guitar, despite leaving school early to support his family. His breakthrough came in the mid-1960s after moving to Mexico City and signing with CBS Mexico in 1966, overcoming numerous initial rejections.

Fernández’s commanding tenor voice and charismatic stage presence brought ranchera music to global audiences. The 1972/1976 hit "Volver, Volver" became an enduring anthem, propelling him to superstardom and opening doors to sell-out performances at Mexico City's Plaza de Toros and New York's Madison Square Garden. Over his prolific career, he released nearly 80 albums, including landmark records like "El Remedio" (1968), "El Hijo del Pueblo" (1974), and the multi-platinum "Para Siempre" (2007).

His heartfelt songs, rooted in love, heartbreak, and Mexican rural life, earned him multiple Latin Grammy Awards, including for "Primera Fila" (2009), "Necesito de Ti" (2010), and his final album "A Mis 80s" (2020). Fernández also starred in over 25 films, further cementing his cultural legacy. He retired from touring in 2016 but continued recording until his passing on December 12, 2021. His influence endures through his music and the careers of his sons, Alejandro and Vicente Jr., ensuring the legacy of Vicente Fernández remains vibrant worldwide.
