About Charlotte Gainsbourg

Charlotte Gainsbourg, born in 1971 to iconic British actress Jane Birkin and legendary French songwriter Serge Gainsbourg, has carved a distinctive path as both an acclaimed actress and innovative singer-songwriter. She first gained public attention in 1984 with the provocative duet "Lemon Incest," recorded alongside her father, which swiftly climbed to number two on the French charts and was included on his album *Love on the Beat* (1985). Charlotte’s early film career also earned her critical acclaim, winning the César Award for Most Promising Young Actress for *L’Effrontée* (1986) and later Best Supporting Actress for *La Bûche* (1999).

After focusing on acting through the 1990s, Gainsbourg returned to music with a mature and refined sound on her 2006 album *5:55*, crafted in collaboration with producers Nigel Godrich, and Air’s Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin, alongside contributions from Jarvis Cocker and Neil Hannon. This platinum-selling record seamlessly blended electronic, orchestral, and rock elements, producing standout tracks like "The Songs That We Sing." She further explored new sonic territories on *IRM* (2009), working with Beck to incorporate psych-rock and dance-pop influences, an album inspired by personal health challenges and achieving diamond status in Europe.

Her deeply personal *Rest* (2017) confronted grief over the loss of her father and half-sister, featuring collaborators such as Paul McCartney and Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo. This album secured her the Victoires de la Musique Female Artist of the Year Award in 2018. Continually evolving, Gainsbourg ventured into experimental soundscapes with the futuristic project *Lovotic* (2022), created alongside Soundwalk Collective, underscoring her fearless creativity across music and film. Her enduring career reflects a rare fusion of emotional depth, artistic innovation, and a unique cultural heritage.
