About The Strokes

The Strokes, formed in New York City in 1998, are widely recognized as pioneers of the early 21st-century rock revival. The band’s lineup features Julian Casablancas on vocals, guitarists Nick Valensi and Albert Hammond Jr., bassist Nikolai Fraiture, and drummer Fabrizio Moretti. Albert Hammond Jr. joined the group after meeting Casablancas at film school, completing the iconic quintet. Drawing inspiration from classic acts like Buddy Holly, The Velvet Underground, and the Ramones, The Strokes crafted a raw yet catchy sound marked by energetic riffs and straightforward songwriting.

Their debut album, "Is This It" (2001), became a landmark release, blending vintage influences with a modern edge. The record, fueled by hits like "Last Nite" and "Someday," reinvigorated alternative rock, achieving critical acclaim and platinum status internationally. This success helped inspire a wave of bands including Kings of Leon, Arctic Monkeys, and Franz Ferdinand. The follow-up albums "Room on Fire" (2003) and the more experimental "First Impressions of Earth" (2006) saw The Strokes incorporating new wave and synth elements while maintaining their distinct style.

After a hiatus during which members explored solo projects, The Strokes returned with "Angles" (2011) and "Comedown Machine" (2013), further experimenting with collaborative songwriting and synth-driven textures. Their 2020 album, "The New Abnormal," marked a powerful comeback, earning them the Grammy Award for Best Rock Album in 2021 and cementing their lasting influence on modern rock music worldwide.
