About J Álvarez

J Álvarez, born Javid David Álvarez Fernández in Puerto Rico to Dominican parents, is a pioneering force in reggaeton and Latin urban music. Developing a passion for music early on, he was influenced by American hip-hop legends like A Tribe Called Quest and Busta Rhymes, as well as Puerto Rican reggaeton icon Tego Calderón. An early performer by age twelve, J Álvarez honed his craft as a rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer before breaking onto the scene.

His career took off in 2009 when reggaeton pioneer DJ Nelson signed him to the FlowMusic label. J Álvarez made a strong impression with his debut album, "El Dueño del Sistema," featuring collaborations with top artists such as De La Ghetto and Jowell & Randy. Following releases like "Otro Nivel de Musica" (2011) and its deluxe version "Otro Nivel de Musica Reloaded" (2012) earned him his first Latin Grammy nomination for Best Urban Music Album. The hit single "La Pregunta" helped solidify his rising status.

J Álvarez’s mainstream success soared with "De Camino Pa 'La Cima" (2014), which debuted at number two on the Top Latin Albums chart and included collaborations with heavyweights like Daddy Yankee. His 2016 album "Big Yauran" earned another Latin Grammy nod, featuring the popular track "Haters." Known as one of the early innovators of Latin Trap, he stands out not only for his music but for his savvy social media presence, amassing over 62 million Twitter followers.

Continuing to captivate audiences, J Álvarez released "La Fama Que Camina" (2018), which included the radio hit "Rico Suave." With multiple Premio Nuestra awards and chart-topping albums, he remains a dominant and influential figure in Latin urban music, consistently selling out tours across the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States.
