About Yazoo

Yazoo, known as Yaz in the United States, was a groundbreaking synth-pop duo that burst onto the early 1980s music scene with a brief but unforgettable impact. Formed in 1981, the partnership united Vince Clarke, fresh from his departure from Depeche Mode where he penned much of their debut album *Speak & Spell* (1981) including the hit "I Just Can't Get Enough," and Alison Moyet, a powerful vocalist who came from the punk-infused band Screamin' Ab Dabs and sought new collaboration through a Melody Maker advertisement.

Their chemistry was instant and electrifying. Yazoo’s debut single, "Only You," released in 1982, quickly climbed to number two on the UK charts, showcasing a unique fusion of Clarke’s sophisticated electronic production and Moyet’s soulful voice. The duo followed this success with dancefloor anthems like "Don’t Go" and "Situation," both of which topped the US Billboard club charts. Their debut album, *Upstairs at Eric’s* (1982), cemented their status by reaching number two in the UK and earning platinum certification.

Despite their rising acclaim, Yazoo’s partnership lasted only two albums. Their 1983 follow-up, *You and Me Both*, featured the hit "Nobody’s Diary" before creative differences led to their split. Afterward, Moyet launched a successful solo career with her debut album *Alf* (1984), while Clarke continued his synth-pop journey by founding Erasure.

In 2008, Yazoo reunited to celebrate their legacy with the comprehensive box set *In Your Room* and embarked on a reunion tour across the UK, Europe, and North America. This comeback led to the release of *Reconnected: Live* (2010), capturing the enduring appeal of one of synth-pop’s most iconic duos.
