About Mary Mary

Mary Mary, the trailblazing gospel duo of sisters Erica and Tina Atkins from Inglewood, California, redefined contemporary gospel music in the 2000s with their fresh fusion of gospel and R&B. Raised in a large, musically gifted family, the sisters’ early introduction to gospel came through their parents—both gospel singers—and their involvement in their church choir. Before launching their recording career, they toured extensively in gospel productions such as Michael Matthews’ “Mama I’m Sorry” (1995) and “Sneaky,” and lent their voices as backup singers for various R&B artists, sharpening their distinctive sound.

Their breakthrough arrived with the stellar debut single "Shackles (Praise You)" from the album "Thankful" (2000), which achieved remarkable crossover success by reaching the Top Ten on R&B charts and the Top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100. Produced primarily by Warryn Campbell—who would later become Erica’s husband—Mary Mary’s subsequent albums, including "Incredible" (2002), their self-titled record (2005), and "The Sound" (2008), solidified their standing in both gospel and mainstream music circles. Notably, "The Sound" debuted at number seven on the Billboard 200 and featured chart-topping singles like "Get Up" and "God in Me," highlighting their crossover appeal.

Mary Mary continued to expand their influence with the release of "Something Big" (2011) and a reality series, *Go Get It* (2012). Their uplifting lyrics paired with contemporary beats earned them multiple Grammy Awards, securing their legacy as one of the most commercially successful and inspiring contemporary gospel acts of their generation.
