About Deafheaven

Deafheaven, formed in San Francisco in 2010 by vocalist George Clarke and guitarist Kerry McCoy, began as a duo before expanding into a five-member band known for redefining the metal genre. While frequently labeled as black metal, Deafheaven pushes beyond conventional boundaries by fusing elements of shoegaze, post-rock, and arena rock into their sound. Their debut album, "Roads to Judah" (2011), introduced this innovative blend, but it was their breakthrough record, "Sunbather" (2013), that brought them critical acclaim for juxtaposing aggressive riffs with lush, melodic layers.

Continuing their evolution, Deafheaven’s 2015 album "New Bermuda" demonstrated their growing complexity, reaching number 16 on the Top Rock Albums chart and attracting a wider audience. Collaborating regularly with producer Jack Shirley, they expanded their sonic palette on 2018’s "Ordinary Corrupt Human Love," incorporating cinematic textures, jazz-inspired percussion, and guest vocals from Chelsea Wolfe—most notably on the epic track "Honeycomb." This album highlighted the band’s commitment to emotional depth and experimentation.

In a bold shift, Deafheaven’s 2021 release "Infinite Granite" embraced dream pop and ambient influences, showcasing predominantly clean vocals and shimmering guitars reminiscent of artists like Radiohead and Ride. Throughout their career, Deafheaven has maintained a fearless approach to musical innovation, blending intense energy with warmth and pushing the limits of what metal can be. Their dynamic trajectory continues to captivate listeners and redefine genre expectations.
